“Nothing is certain but death and taxes.”
While I can’t really remember who said that, I do know that this is a saying we all know. In simpler terms, nobody can really escape the eventuality of paying tax.
Of course, death and taxes have more in common than their certainty. Many people are just as afraid of taxes as they are of death. And the complicated Internal Revenue Code does not make the comprehension of basic income tax laws any easier for the laymen.
Nor for the attorney.
This blog is not a detailed guide on how to fill out your tax returns. Indeed, if you don’t know how to fill out your returns, then you should invest some time and money in a good accountant. Even though I have tax knowledge, I have found the wisdom and experience of an accountant to be just the remedy I need during tax season.
What this blog is meant for is to shed some light on everyday income tax issues, and hopefully provide some (basic) legal guidance on general tax questions.
Now, as a general rule of professional responsibility, I am required to state that nothing on this blog is ever to be construed as legal advice. This blog does not establish an attorney-client relationship and no tax advice is given in this blog. It is a mere starting point for the reader to explore the issues and discuss them with competent tax experts.
Finally, in accordance with Circular 230,
nothing in this blog may be used for the purpose of (1) avoiding any penalty that may be imposed by the Internal Revenue Service or (2) promoting, marketing or recommending to another party any transaction or matter addressed herein. If you would like such advice, please contact a competent tax expert.
