IRS Tax Exempt Nonprofit Recordkeeping: Here, I look at the documents you need to keep handy, if you want to run a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, or any other nonprofit, for that matter.  This list is a list of best practices for nonprofits as well as some rules and regulations. It is very important to keep up to date with your documentation, if you plan on running on a tax exempt nonprofit organization. 

Deducting Meals and Entertainment Expenses:  If you run a small business, you should know that meals and travel expenses are deductible, under certain circumstances.  Know the rules and keep good records.   

Deduct Business Travel:  If you travel, whether as the owner of your own company or as the employee of another company, you might be able to deduct business travel expenses.  Know the federal income tax law and learn what you can– and can’t– deduct from your income tax amount.

Estate Tax Repeal Hurts Nonprofit Funding:  The estate tax lapse of 2010 might be hurting nonprofit funding and charitable donations.  Many donations were made by testamentary trust.  As a result, will the estate tax lapse be bad for nonprofits and charities?

Home Office Tax Deduction- 4 Things to Know:  Home office tax deductions might be a brilliant idea– if you meet the requirements.  Be careful!  Many tax experts say that these tax deductions are a red flag for audit, since many people don’t understand them and take these tax deductions for granted.  It’s just not as easy as deducting a home office in the spare bedroom.
